What are the symptoms and consequences of a spinal cord injury?
Spinal cord injuries usually begin with a sudden, traumatic blow to the spine that fractures or displaces vertebrae. Most injuries to the spinal cord do not severe it, but instead cause fractures or compression of the vertebrae, which then crush or destroy the nerves leading from the spinal cord to the rest of the body. This can cause severe pain, numbness, and in some cases paralysis.
